The Philosophy of Law Department group from the Universidad de Cantabria is made up of four tenured professors from the Law Faculty with extensive careers in teaching and research in the sphere of Human Rights. At the Law Faculty of the University of Cantabria they teach Law and Labor Relations and, in the faculty of Medicine, a Bioethics course. They have been members of the Bioethics Committee of the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital in Santander, and are currently expert members of the Observatorio Cántabro de Apoyo a las Familias [“Cantabrian Observatory of Family Support”].
Amongst the group’s main lines of research are the following:

•  The critical thinking of modernity
•  Analysis of the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights.
•  Freedom of conscience and religion.
•  Rights in the philosophy of our age: neo-structuralism, neo-contractualism, systems theory, deconstruction.
•  Creativity and imagination in Human Rights thinking.
•  Problems of women and the family: analysis and public policy.
•  The role of Human Rights in medical treatment.
